Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
I was your age and
I remember that feeling
of --- Oh My God, in a blink,
my life will be over.
There are no guarantees
in life. It's true that life can
be over in a blink, or in ten
blinks, or it may go on for
another sixty years from
where you are.
Here's a skill I've developed
in the thirty years since life
felt like it would be over in
a blink. It goes to the question
of what path to choose when
standing at the crossroads
or anywhere else.
Go inside yourself. Consider
each option separately, checking
in with how you feel about each
one, in the very pit of your stomach
or your heartstrings, or whatever
part of your essence gives you
the most tangible feedback.
For the record, I began earning
my grad degree at age 40 and
I've had it over twenty years now.
It's been great. I'm so glad that
I went for it when I did. I've used
it well; it's served me well. It
didn't matter that I was close
to the oldest student in my
class. I was the first student
to take notes on a laptop.
Also, for the record, I've done
many things in my professional
life. When I was younger, I was
in musical theater. Through my
life, I've been a writer. Now, I (both)
help people as a counselor and
also, produce videos!
The beauty of a long life is
that it can be full and rich.
Throughout my own, I've had
to deal with abuse, impediments,
recovery and multiple choices.
That's what makes a full life
so awesomely interesting.
Back to your question:
When I was 31, I felt much as
you do, so I pulled up roots
and headed out into the world.
I was fine with my decision,
but frankly, I learned lots and
different kinds of life lessons
with every passing day. Sometimes
what I learned made me change
course. Sometimes I regretted
those changes. Sometimes I
circled back around and returned
to a crossroads where I'd been ---
and took the OTHER direction.
Love your life.
It's an ADVENTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the good news is that
you have the wisdom
of the universe
INSIDE YOU.
