Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
Well today is very bitter sweet for me.
Today is my 14 year wedding anniversary (20 years together) and today is the day we sign the final divorce documents.
I am so thankful for the continued clarity of his abuse and sociopathic/narc personality.
He tells me last night how he is really going to worry about me, of course in a sweet innocent voice. I looked at him and had to look away because I must admit I am a little sad (I know I am supposed to let myself feel whatever I feel, but I am really just trying to push the sadness down deep at least until everything is final so I do not have a panic attack). So he says to me "I am really going to worry about you". I said, "I'll be fine, you don't have to worry". He then started talking about the house. A lightbulb went off as he was talking and I turned to him and said "Ohhhhh, I get it now, you are only concerned about me TAKING CARE OF THE HOUSE". He said "Well, the vacume has been sitting in the other room for 3 weeks (I did it on purpose & it is not in the way anyway) and by this point it might as well be considered an art piece that you should shine a light on for everyone to see, hahaha". He went on to talk about all the things he did that I won't be doing and he would hate to see such a nice house be destroyed because I am not taking care of it.
Just at the moment I was feeling sad about our 20 year relationship coming to an end, I smiled inside and thanked god for the continued clarity of how he really is!
Woke up sad because it is our anniversary but going to bed (hopefully) happy that I can start the next chapter of my life very soon (once the divorce is final) abuse free!

Truly once the realization has set in that the person you were with is a narcissistic abuser, it can never be taken back. And thank god for that!
I am so sorry for your loss, but I also want to congratulate you on the achievement of your dream: Freedom. Don't ever lose sight of that!!!

I get the bittersweet thing, I don't think divorce is ever a happy thing. But in this case, as in all cases of abuse, it does at least bring hope and the chance of a bright future.
