Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
In a new thread tonight, a D.S. poster talked about having her dog treated inhumanely by her fiancee.
What upset me most, is that the link between feeling entitled to beat up on helpless, innocent animals ---- and beating up on people the perpetrator claims to love or other humans ---- is a link that's commonly acknowledged by services and people who deal with offenders.

According to a 1997 study done by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and Northeastern University, animal abusers are five times more likely to commit violent crimes against people and four times more likely to commit property crimes than are individuals without a history of animal abuse.
Don't underestimate a person prone to violence. If he'll mistreat a dog, what else might he do?

When he's in a good mood, the dogs are good (per him). When he's in a bad mood, the dogs are terrible / should be shot. They act the same, the issue is HIM.
The kids love their animals, I can't leave them.
I will never tolerate anyone being rough with my furry companion again. That cat is the best thing in my life.
