Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.

Greetings Visitors and Survivors ----
Two nights ago, a Connecticut TV station broke a story that travelled beyond Connecticut and around the world at the speed of internet.
A couple in their 30's had had a relationship that already included police called to the house (on a recent Valentine's Day, no less).
Presumably sometime after that, they separated, the wife on the east coast, the husband in California. But as with so many relationships, there was a pull in both directions, and the husband returned to Connecticut to talk.
Here's where the story hit the media.
He wakes up to find that she's handcuffed them together. He grabs his phone while restraining her from trying to further attack him, and dials 911.
While he's talking to the confused dispatcher, she begins scratching and biting him. On the tape, you can hear him screaming in obvious pain.
At some point not too long after the call began (an eternity for him, obviously, the police arrive and not only have to break through the locked door to the home, but also the bedroom ----- because she's changed the locks to the inside of the master bedroom door to require a key to open.
The police free him and take him to the hospital where he's treated for bites and lacerations. She's taken to jail and booked on several charges (not domestic battery). He tells police this is not the first time, that she has a history of physical violence.
So ---- here's the thing: From the first TV report to stuff I'm reading that's appeared around the world already ----- this guy has to deal with not only waking to unlawful restraint and a bloody, painful attack, but every kind of media, including ostensibly respected journalists, making a joke about his ordeal. Yes ---- a joke. Nearly every report I've seen has gotten in a joke or a smirk or a giggle.
Ladies ----- if you think domestic battery, be it physical or emotional, is a difficult situation for us, imagine if the whole world smirked and chuckled at your pain and your trauma.
Two good things have come of this story. One is that the courts will hold her accountable. The second is that it gives me a chance to bring a taboo situation out and talk about an actual case.

(by the way ----- I'm feeling okay. The tender spot on my forehead is less tender and I'm beginning to feel a little more energetic. I didn't even think about the knock on the head till three days later, but if there was a connection, it looks like I survived it and it's hopefully fading in impact. I'm sleepy enough as it is. I don't need anything making me permanently drowsy!)

I'm glad she will be held accountable, and I feel bad for him...as you do, to be attacked like that and then made fun of. Of course if it had been he that handcuffed and attacked her, it would have been a completely different story.....which is sad.
Abuse is abuse is abuse......
However in the above case, I don't see any mention of previous abuse from the male and the stuff she was doing just sounds completely inhumane and unprovoked, although I don't know the whole story of course.
Either way it makes me sad that others make fun of such a horrible situation just because he's a male and got "beat up" by a woman. I agree with HockeyMom that if this was the other way around, everyone would be just mortified.
