Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
I do assume there's more that goes on than this....
Those type of statements are a form of emotional/verbal abuse.
The very first time he just out of the blue told me that he wasn't feeling attracted to me lately and that I should dress differently. This spread over time to - that I wore things that didn't suit my body. That my stomach stuck out too much. That if I had a flat stomach I would be perfect. That I should dress more feminine. That if I lost 10 pounds I would be perfect. That I have big teeth. That my legs are big. That I should pain my toe nails a brighter color. That so and so looks great after having a baby doesn't she? (hint hint). I think you get the idea.
What I mean to say is that I now see those first comments about my appearance as huge red flags and I very much regret not ditching him them. We have had some great times my husband and I and have a wonderful child but overall, my life would have likely been much better with a more normal person.
You asked:
What do you all do if . . . . . .
Me?
I'd have to tell myself that:
I could and/or should look FURTHER than this abusive boyfriend.
And then I'd be OUTTA there faster then you can say:
Butterflies are FREE.

A relationship should make each person better/stronger/happier than the person would be on his or her own. It should be mutually beneficial. Otherwise, what's the point?
