Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
Your light is inside you!
You may be slow (I happen to be slow, myself!) but you are in no way ridiculous.
Sometimes our parents do things when we're growing up, that hurt us at that moment, and then sometimes also long into our adult lives. Most of them do it because they were themselves hurt, when THEY were children.
Once we're grown up, it's time for us to begin to repair whatever the damages were. We can do it now. It's not going to be easy but we can do it.
The first step is reaching out and getting some support. You've reached out here, and that's good. It would also be good if you could find a counselor or therapist who understands abuse and trauma. If you can't find a counselor ---- or even if you can --- sometimes a support group can help, also.
When people who have been hurt themselves become parents and raise children with fair or poor parenting skills, the cycle continues. But when we become adults, we can step in and break the cycle. We may not be able to change EVERYTHING, but we can begin to live lives in which we feel better about ourselves and being with others, on any given day. Then, if we become parents someday, we'll have different skills and tools for raising children who won't feel insecure and ridiculous.
Please keep reaching out. That's the first way we can begin to take care of ourselves.
