A phobia (from the Greek "fear"), is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities, or persons. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. When the fear is beyond one's control, or if the fear is interfering with daily life, then a diagnosis under one of the anxiety disorders can be made.
last night i took a shower with my glasses on a flyswatter in my hand and a broom right outside the shower ...all because i saw a spider on the ceiling which may or may not have been a fly...its that time of year..getting colder and the spiders are coming in out of the cold...they terrify me..today the whole house is getting a good vacuming and the bag is going in the outside trash...i feel like a freak...btw my glasses fogged up in the shower so what good did that do. i'm 56 yrs old and i've been dealing with this fear all of my life.

Hi Kathy, Sorry to hear about your phobia of spiders. I don't have a phobia of them, but i definitely do not like that, I will get up and scream like a little girl for my boyfriend to kill it, haha. Do you feed the birds? they like spiders so its good to keep them around your house. CBT therapy also is a good therapy for Phobias (Unless its mine :() Good luck!!

My son is just as bad. He won't sleep if he THINKS he saw a spider in our house. It's very tough, because spiders are hard to avoid. My thoughts are with you.

Terrified of spiders and I always encounter one lately especially with the summer spring type weather off and on in March. Recently I screamed my lungs out and was talking to boyfriend on the phone. Okay so I hope I don't give you anxiety but it was a black one like we get on the wall in the bathroom where they always come. I freak out if I see a bug that looks like a spider and I thought okay when they fly its not a spider!! Anyway though I took a towel and whacked the spider and it hung from its web and then went back up on the wall. I get soo freaked out if one is too close to me especially hanging! I worry more though if they are posinous but even the smallest ones on the floor I have screamed like when I used to go to school! I would want to kill every spider I see. I don't even care if it's where they live they are gross! In Mexico my brother and I were asked if we wanted to hold a tranchula to get over our fears and we said no thanks! My brother and I would never talk to each other again if either of us put a tranchula on each other when we were asleep. This would have to be the cruelest thing anyone could do to us as he is 23 and when was in school would scream at his roomate to kill the spiders in the bathroom. We can't even use a bathroom if a spider is close to us especially if you are a on a toilet and one is there. I am soo freaked out by them so you are not alone! IN Disneyland it even scared me on the Bugs life type of ride or it was CA Adventure they fake spiders were big and came from the ceiling! I just got scared!!! Yuck!!

Ps. I recently killed another spider. I kill 2 spiders a week and anything that I think is a spider!!
