Phobia Support Group
A phobia (from the Greek "fear"), is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities, or persons. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. When the fear is beyond one's control, or if the fear is interfering with daily life, then a diagnosis under one of the anxiety disorders can be made.

WOW, Kathy, I just finished writing an entry in my journal, saying how I'm crying hysterically while watching the report on the plane crash in NY!!! I have phobias to water and to flying in a plane. So watching the report really triggered tremendous sadness in me. I wish I could offer you advice, but I say you are not alone. I feel so bad that you cannot take tranquilizers because I'm sure that would be the only way I would ever get on a plane. Sending you hugs of support.

I was reading about it last night. I forget what the statistics are, but its very rare! Xanax will probably be good, and use some calming stratagies. I hope everything goes well for you, maybe when you fly- you'll realize you love it! Take care!!

hi, i too am afraid to fly, i did once, but never again. everyone says flying is better then driving, more accidents driving. i took 2 mg. colopin and i was still nervous. like sweetgirl said your not alone. people fly every day, so you go, and be safe. ask GOD to glide your plane there and back home. he will. GOD BLESS. ronna
