Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

My husband and I have a new family member! We found Dudley listed online at a local shelter. He was scheduled to be euthanized a two-year-old Mini Schnauzer with the most lovable, sweet face and happy tail!! I still cant believe the local Miniature Schnauzer Rescue organization didnt come to his rescue. Then again, we both tried contacting them numerous times about fostering and adopting, and they never got back to us. I dont know how you can say youre a rescue organization when you dont do a damned thing. . . .
Anyway, we are thrilled to have him. We definitely feel like Rupert chose him for us.

If you only know one thing about me, it should be _____________________.

My husband and I are doing the long-distance thing right now, so although I was there to adopt Dudley (his dad calls him Dud Muffin), I didnt get to be there for his homecoming. We Skype every day, though, and I get to see and talk to them both, and John sends me videos. Dudley seems so happy with him! Hes always in Johns lap; loves getting scratched and brushed, and he loves the yard. Hes really playful too.
John found him online right before I flew out there for a weekend. I knew the instant I saw the photo that he was the one. The way that particular shelter works is that you adopt a dog, then set up an appointment for them to be neutered at a vet. The shelter takes the dog to the vet, then you pick him up afterward. Its their way of assuring all the animals are spayed/neutered without having to incur the cost. So by the time John got to bring him home, I was already gone.
Ill go home again before Christmas, and will get to work from there for about three weeks, so Ill get to spend time with him soon.
I was really dreading the holidays, without Rupert. Having Dudley to love and spoil will definitely help. I still miss Rupert so much. I cry every day, at least once. But I do feel like hes with us, and that he picked out Dudley for us.
She is SO much better now -- still a little trace of cough, but other than that, she's doing great. My husband and I are living in two states right now, so he has Dudley and I have Nugget. I just came home yesterday and they got to meet each other for the first time, and are getting along great.
I was looking for another Schnauzer (and a male) when I found Nugget, but I just couldn't leave her there. I now believe if I had, she would have died. She was in such bad shape. I feel so lucky to have her!
The shelter had estimated her age at 8, but I didn't think she was that old. The vet agreed, and thinks she may be around 4.
I still miss my Rupert, though. Got out the Christmas stuff, and there was his little Santa hat and stocking, and it made me cry.
