Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
I lost my precious lil girl 5 days ago. I am devastated. I loved her so much. Sassy was a persian. She came to live with me when she was about 4 years old. She was rescused from a puppy mill where she was used for breeding purposes only and other then that she had no quality of life. She lived those 4 years in a lobster trap with a male cat in a dirty run down old barn. When the SPCA rescued her she was so scared. Her fur was matted so badly and she was so thin and very sick. The vet said she was bred so often that her uterus was paper thin. The male cat that was with her didn't survive.
When Sassy came to live with me she trusted no one and hid away from everyone. She didn't like to be touched or picked up but from the moment I met her I loved her. With a lot of love she grew to know she could trust our family and to know that we would never do her any harm.
When my husband and I split up and my children moved on with their lives, she was all I had. She would run to meet me at the door when I got in from work. She would cuddle with me when I watched TV and sleep with me every night. I had her for 8 wonderful years. She went into kidney failure and there was nothing they could do for her. I held her as she passed away in my arms. I didn't want to let her go.
Going home to an empty apartment is so difficult. My little grand daughter doesn't understand where Sassy has gone. I have tried to explain it to her and she tries to understand but she is only 2 1/2. She loved Sassy so much.
My heart is breaking. I miss my Sassy girl so much! :(

I miss you so much; my special friend
I ask myself each day; if the pain will ever end
Your loss is so hard; for one person to bear
because we were a team; an inseparable pair
You were by my side; when I got up each day
waiting so patiently; in your special way
You were there each night; you were always with me
I knew you loved me; this I could see
You always knew; if I was having a bad day
you'd snuggle up close; in my arms you would lay
If that didn't work; you would sit on my lap for a while
Until you succeeded; and got me to smile
