Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

my dog bit the neighbors dog.

I am so stressed right now i dont know where to begin. i was outside chopping the ice off of the patio in my fenced in back yard with my two dogs. the neighbors from two houses down have two small dogs and one of them got out of the fence and came into our yard and poked his head through our gate. my dogs saw him and instantly jumped at the gate and the gate opened and our dog bit our neighbors dog. on our driveway. luckily i got him off quickly but our other dog proceded to chase this dog back into his yard but my dog came back immediatly. a few minuites later my neighbor came over and asked me if i saw what happened and i told her that her dog got loose and came into our yard and my dog bit her dog in our driveway. she told me that her daughter said that our dogs were in her yard and that it was not possible for her dog to get out of her yard. i told her that her dog did get out of her yard and that it was her daughter that came and retrieved their dog out of our yard. i am so upset right now and i dont know what is going to happen next.

My friend this is a hard one but it would be the best if you and the other dog owner could just set down and talk things out with a level head. I do understand that not all people are willing to do this but I would call her and just see if she would be willing to talk. When animals live in a short distance of each other you will have things like this occurring and it is no-ones fault. It is just an accident and dogs will be dogs but don't let it get you down as long as you have tried, even though it was not your fault sometimes we have to give a little to get a little.
I will be praying for this matter to be resolved but in the mean time don't worry about something you had no control over...God bless..Chaplain Turner

This is a very difficult situation....and I'm sorry....I do know it's very stressful. Hang in there. I had this happen to me, and what I did is go to the owner and first appoligise, then offer to pay all the vet bills....& trust me this dog was YEARS ago ( NOT the one I'm greaving about ) & it was a terrible injury to the other this particular dog being very mean. I ended up having her put down, due to the fact that I had a very small son at the time, and also MANY kids in the neighbors. BUT, this is NOT what I'm NOT suggesting for you to do....but at least go to the owner and discuss, and make an offer, if nothing else of half. That's the best I can do. Hang in there. Many HUGS!! It will work out.....trust me. We are all here for you.

I am so sorry to hear about your heavy heart...I know what it is like to have something out of your control happen. It probably would be best to talk with your neighbor or send flowers or some other kind gesture to show that even though it was not your fault or your dogs fault, that you are empathetic to their situation and to their dog. Who knows maybe if your dog had not bit their dog once it left their yard the family may have continued not to keep such a good eye on their dog when out in the yard....which could have possibly led to something more devastating like being hit by a car. In a way...because your dog bit theirs they will most likely keep better tabs on their dog while it is outside from here on out, which may end up saving its life.
