Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
Taking the time to cry and grieve when you can seems to help. Not sure what your day is like, but if you can take some time for yourself to feel what you feel, it will be best.
It hurts, there's no way around that. A friend of mine had the same circumstance (a lab she had for 15 years), and she said she still cries some daily, but that it feels less painful. Hopefully, we get to the point where we have good memories and still miss them, but the pain is less.
In the mean time, take care of yourself. Our guys were speacial, and there is no one that can fill that in quite that same way. It takes time to recognize what a huge part of our life that they are.
However, losing a furbaby has stages and yes you are going to need to grieve, and you might even think of what you could have done different, but these are all normal feelings. The tears will flow after all, look how many years you had your precious one. I had mine for 5 years and I had a lot of tears even a year. I always say you can measure time. Hugs
You have already gone throught the first days of shock. Now, living with the reality...one moment..one hr. one day at at time. I just kept putting one foot in front of the other and managed to live through my pain and sorrow.
There is so much to adjust to, it is a difficult time~
May you be guided through your loss with Tenderness and love. Gentle Hugs!
You are in the right place...
