Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

My baby boy is gone

I was able to trap baby and take him in so he will no longer be suffering and be in pain. I got hold and touch him for the first time, he was my 4 year old feral who I had never been able to touch.

My heart is broken and I feel so guilty that I coudn't make him better. He has lived in my feral shelter for months in pain. Something was wrong with his mouth and he would drool and couldn't eat very often. I will miss going out on the front porch and talking to him, he would lay with his head at the shelter door and look at me while I talked to him.

May you rest in peace Baby boy! He is in my photos if anyone would like to leave a little message for him.

You know how I feel about when somebody looses a pet. I am so sorry for your loss. You are such a kind and dear person, and it grieves me to see that you lost another furbaby. My heart goes out to you, my friend.

as sad as this is..you did the right thing..animals should never suffer and you gave him a comfortable life..

Ferals are such a challenge; I have a number that come in to eat with my barn cats, and I have seen a lot of them at nearby fast food lots. You managed, and still manage, your colony with the best of intentions. The sad part here is that you caould lose any of them at any time, and never even know what happened to them. This time, you got to help by ending his suffering before he had to suffer for very long. You are doing a wonderful thing helping feral cats, and that is a good thing. Better to manage the colony than to trap them and take them to the shelter, where they would be killed for sure.

Thank you for your kind words. I am still having a hard time and cry every time I go out on my front porch. I just miss him so much and feel so bad that I couldn't do more for him.

I have been feeding and watching him grow since he was a kitten. I am dealing with the guilt for not trying to trap him sooner and getting him the help he needed.
