Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
I agree with Jennifer. We never replace a pet. We bring a different "friend" into our lives. This new pet will never be anything like our pet that has passed, even if the pet is the same breed but he/she will bring us new laughs and fun times to be shared. This new pet will bring new challenges and will have quirks too. I have been a dog trainer for 25 years. I have loved and lost many dogs, cats, fish.
I recently lost my 14 year old dog, Molly, but am not going to get another dog at this time. I have 4 dogs, one cat, and 7 fish, (mostly goldfish that were in the feeder tank & a "tank house cleaner.") I have physical challenges and I am getting older so another pet would be difficult to take care of at this time. I have also promised to take in my father's two dogs if he passes away before the dogs do.
There are many pets in shelters and foster care that need loving homes. You will know when you see the right one. As I have told you before, pray about it and listen to God's voice. He will help you pick out a perfect pet for you.
You are one of my friends on FMO. If you need help, please contact me. With love to you and your family, Leda

I think you should get another dog when you have stopped your crying and deep sadness and when you can look back at the memories and think of good times with your lovely dog....then i think you will be ready to get another dog. But it is up to you.
