The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
Abby had been sick and having a lot of health issues for a while now. I took her to the vet thinking we could get some antibiotics like we always do and then she would start feeling better. She was not going to get better and she was having so much trouble breathing. The vet suggested that the most loving thing I could do for her was to let her go.
I knew the vet was right and that if I took her home I would be making her suffer and I would put it off as long as possible, I held her head in my arms and kept telling her how much I loved her as she went into a peaceful sleep.
I adopted Abby when she was a year old from the Humane Society and we were all so in love with her. I miss her so much and all I have done is cry. My eyes are swollen almost shut, I can't eat and I can't sleep. I would do anything just to be able to wake up and find her laying next to my bed all excited for breakfast. She was only a few months shy of turning 14 years old. I just hope she knew how much my boys and I loved her. My kitty Peaches seems depressed and not her usual self. Abby and Peaches were very close. They slept together and played together. Abby took on the mother roll when Peaches came in to our lives as a baby kitten. I have a picture posted of the two of them sleeping on my bed. When Peaches was a tiny kitten she used to cuddle on top of Abby and Abby was fine with that.
I adopted her November 4, 2000 and she passed June 3, 20013.

She was still eating and drinking and would even prance around when it was something she loved to eat. She still chased Peaches around the house. I keep coming up with more reasons that it was not time for her to go then I do reasons she should be let go. If only I could go back to Monday and do it all over again, she would still be here. I can't believe I did this. We were just going in to have her cyst that broke open cleaned and some antibiotics. I felt pressured by the lady that drove us to the vet as she kept saying things about not being able to get Abby to a vet very easy without transportation and she seemed irritated to be taking us to the vet again. I miss Abby so much.
Now my kitty Peaches has something wrong with her. She has been to the vet 3 times since last Tuesday. Today she has been there all day. I hope they can find out what is wrong. She is not even 6 years old yet. I can't bare the thought of losing my cat too.
