Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
Its been 5 weeks since we lost our babies 3 days apart and i'm heartbroken. I can't stop crying, i miss them soo bad. For almost 16 years we had them, Bobby we adopted at 5 months and Oscar was approximatley a year old. They were the most loved pair of boys, we walked for miles, went everywhere with us, we bought a caravan so they could come on holiday with us and not go into kennels. Bobby ran like the wind thro the woods, fields and on the beach. Oscar was knocked down by a car and wasnt expected to live but he did. He was a beautiful little soul, he became my little guardian angel after the tragic loss of our son, he was never very far away from me and liked us all to be together. In recent years they both developed canine cognitive disorder. Oscar also had an enlarged liver which he received long term treatment for. Bobby developed a brain tumour. Since last christmas i slept on the sofa with them so i was with them 24/7. Then 5 weeks ago Bobby was given the last medication that the vet thought might help him and at the same time Oscar became poorly very quickly and collapsed, we had to let him go peacefully then 3 days later we had to let Bobby go peacefully. Devestated does'nt even come close to how i feel, it took me a month to move their water bowls, I can't move their beds, i have their blankets rolled up in them and i hug them a million times a day. Everything in the house, garden, car and caravan was geared up for them. There is 16 years of life with them here and adjusting to life without them is proving to be so hard. I know it was their time and we did the right thing by them but it doesnt make it any easier, i would give anything to hug them again. My home/life is just empty now.
Thank you for reading.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

I know your 'boys' can't be replaced. You have so much love to give - have you considered fostering a dog until it's ready for adoption? Living with you would certainly be better than a cage at the shelter.
