Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

It is 3 years this month that I had to put my beloved Bosley to sleep. I am still crying as I sit here and write this. But I am learning that even though I will never love another like I loved my Mr.B it is ok to open my heart to another.
My passion is for Saint Bernards. There are no reputable breeders where we live. Boz came from a "backyard" breeder and well, never again. If you have looked at my profile and read about Boz, you may have seen that from about 8 months old he had epilepsy. I cannot, cannot go through that again. It is ultimately what killed him.
So.....I am looking for people who may know someone or who know people who know people who are reputable. I live in southern Indiana and I cannot find breeders in this state. So please, if you have or know someone who have contacts, please let me know. Either here or at aaimwalte@aol.com Thank you all so much and hugs to you and to all of our furry ones.

I have a purebred animal. She is a 14 yr old Siamese and I recently had to decide, with her overactive thyroid, and she almost died, I took her to the vet. I am having regrets because if I am too sick myself to give her her thyroid pill, like in hospital, she has to have it every day. Beside that, when I was looking for a purebred cat I got a copy of Cat Fancy magazine and looked up breeders. If you have to have another Saint Bernard, get the dog from a reliable breeder. I used to call all the cat breeders in my area, and a lot of them know each other, and perhaps one or two breeders will say they know someone who has the dog's best interest at heart. If not, you can shop around the SPCA FOR A DOG YOU MIGHT LIKE. The workers will know the dog's history and there is also RESCUE GROUPS FOR ALMOST ALL BREEDS. GOOD LUCK!

As a footnote about the Saint Brenard, the breeders and rescue groups could arrange to have the pup or adult dog shipped on a plane. Sometimes, at the breed rescues, somebody may be willing to drive the animal, lots of ways. Enquire in Dog Fancy or Dog World. Your library should have copies of the mags. But get refrences and take your time, and I wish you good luck with your new pet!

I WORK AT A LOCAL SHELTER AND TOTALLY DISAGREE W/ BUYING FROM BEREEDERS. SO MANY HOMELESS THROU-BREEDS FROM BIG 2 LITTLE CAN BE RESCUED FROM LOCAL SHELTERS. THERE IS USUALLY A RESCUE ORG. FOR ANY BREED IMAGINABLE. CHECK UR LOCAL ARE 4 ST. BER RESCUES OR SANCTUARIES. SOME ARE FAIRLY YOUNG AND HIGHLY TRAINED EX- WORKING DOGS FORCED IN2 EARLY RETIREMENT DUE 2 A SMALL INFRACTION SUCH AS HEARING/ SMELLING PROBLEMS ETC. GOOD LUCK

If it came down to buying from a breeder or a pet store, then you know the answer to that. Animal rescue groups for every breed should be available. I have had all kinds of cats, mostly ones that I got from the street or from a friend. My sweetheart Baby I found in the rain. I heard a kitten crying and went right out and found the sweetheart. She blessed me for 14 years. She loved me and I loved her right back. Even though I just had Chloe my Siamese, well I sometimes regret that she was put to sleep. But I am too sick and in the hospital sometimes and nobody to look after me and my cat. That was jjust a week ago nd I am crying and feel guilty. The animals just don't live long enough.
