Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
Forced to surrender rescue dog to animal control
Hi everyone
As I write this I am just trying to process it all and looking for any anonymous hope and prayers that you could offer. I adopted a pit mix from the animal control center because he was on death row about three months ago. He was not in good condition and was sick, chipped teeth, clearly abused. I took him in and he became a part of my life; we would run together, play, he smiled when he got super excited. Over three months he became a best friend. I did notice there was slight dog aggression in him, but he was an angel to people.
To make this short, I had my friend attempt to walk him while I was out to dinner the other night. He bit another dog in our hallway badly (it looked worse than it was and the other dog is ok) and drew blood; though only his ear had a little bite. Needless to say, all of our neighbors and everyone came out and witnessed the attack. They, in their semi-ignorant minds, looked at my dog as a viscious nasty attacking pit bull.
I rushed home in tears, I knew that minute that I was facing eviction or my dog would have to go to the animal control. To make it short, the apartment complex had no negotiating and mandated the dog be sent to animal control, I had one day left with him. I am at my wit's end. I am so depressed I take sleeping pills all day. I am sick to my stomach. The shelters are all overflooded and do not take dogs that are dog aggressive; the only one is animal control. It kills me to know I've lost my sweet boy and my apartment reminds me of him, it feels like a death. But what's worse than that is that it's a death I am giving him. I have no choice. Nobody would take him and it was better than tying him to a tree. The shelter told me that due to overcrowding he faces a chance of euthanasia especially since he's dog aggressive. Just one week ago we were cuddling in bed and running around together. I'm devastated. I can't sleep. I feel guilt, the weight of the world, loss, please someone help me. Anyone. please just let me know and reach out.

Tomorrow is National Relaxation Day but seeing how we already had a Moment of Zen this week and today happens to be a Friday, how about some relaxation jokes instead?! Namaste... enjoy! Happy Friday!

If you only know one thing about me, it should be _____________________.

I live in New York City. the laws are strict here. As of now, I am just trying to accept the outcome and grieve. I have tried everything multiple times and there is no way out of my lease. I cannot afford to move. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions for grieving? I have been laying in bed on sleeping pills for the past few days.
