I have not been in this situation so I can't really give any advice. I just wanted to let you know that I'm sending prayers your way.

I did have a dog who passed last June and she was considered a fear biter. I pretty much made sure I had control over her when strangers came over. I also explained to people that they needed to let her come to them and then she would be fine. My case is different because she never broke the skin when she did nip at someone.

Again I am sorry I am of no help but can understand whatever decision you make in this situation. Good luck!

Can I ask what your mom and the dog were doing at the time of this incident?

Your doggy could have a physical problem you aren't aware of which is making her touchy?
Otherwise-I agree that it is too risky to chance another bite...when I was very little we had a dog which I guess would even sleep in my playpen with me...guess the family didn't know the doggy was pregnant (a stray had gotten into the yard) and one day I was petting the dogs tummy and guess it hurt the dog and it attacked me...tore up the inside of my mouth...the dog later kept licking me and the vet even questioned if the family was sure-but the family didn't want to chance having it attack again.

Thank you both. My mom was outside with her and our dog was trying to dig something up and my mom tried to pull her away and she bit my mom. Our dog has lots of fear, mainly with strangers. She will not let anyone touch her and she barks and growls. She did a lot of mouthing and we never did anything. We should have gotten a trainer and gotten that under control. Things just got worst and she finally bit someone. We are going to talk to a trainer to see if maybe we could break her of this. But it is looking like we may have to put her down.

People probably won't agree with me but I am glad you are talking to a trainer before you make your final decision.

My dog Abby was very fearful and when people came to our door she would bark and growl and her fur stood straight up down her back. I had very small children but didn't want to take her back to the Humane Society because I knew she would be put down. I adopted her when she was a year old. She lived with us for almost 13 years and was almost 14 before she went to Rainbow Bridge.

I got bit by my cousins Sheltie last month. It broke the skin and I had to go to the ER since he wasn't up to date on his shots. I decided not to call the dog in.
My parents were watching him and he ran away. When we caught up with him, he was panicked and a little out of it. I was stupid and tried to baby him and when my sister moved, he sat up and bit me.
I think he was just out of it and was fine after. We were able to watch him for 3 days to make sure he didn't act differently.

I would just watch him and let him now that it is not ok. A trainer will be good. Any fast movements can scare a dog/cat and can lead to biting. Just out of fear. I wouldn't put him down. Give him another chance. Keep us posted!
