Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
Back in 2006 I rescued a dog named Daisy, she had a broken leg and head wound from being ran over by a car. The vet was going to put her to sleep because the owner no longer wanted her. I paid the vet bills and she was signed over to me. I helped her recover from her injuries and she became more then just a dog to me. As she got older she slowed down and I started carrying her up and down stairs. She had athritis in her front legs and they would hurt at times. She would always stop at the top the stairs and wait on me to pick her up. She would always give me a kiss when I picked her up. She had to be put to sleep Friday, her kidneys were no longer functioning and her lab results were off the chart. She was my best friend. I still catch myself looking to see if she is alseep on the couch or in her bed. Every room I go in has a reminder of her. She was truly a special pet and I loved her with all of my heart. I miss her so much.
I had to put down my precious "Boxer" last August and since that day I have not been the same as she was like the daughter I never had. It's hard but I try to celebrate her life of over 13 years and try to be happy knowing that she would want her Mommy not to be sad.
