Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.
It's been 1 yr. since we had to put our 3 fur babies to sleep. Started with Buddy-he was 15, a Border Collie. Right after New Year's day. Couple months later, Baby-13 yr.old Sheltie mix, had to be put to sleep. We got her to be Buddy's companion, and she was...followed him like a shadow. The day we came home without Buddy, she was lost and lonely. Her health went downhill fast.
Meantime, Oscar-13 yr. old cat developed a growth behind his one eye, which he underwent surgery for. Ended up to be cancer. This cat literally walked into our lives. He was a true lap cat. Called his name, and he would come to us right away with his meow, and purring. Husband and I started to rescue animals when we were dating ( 30+ yrs ) This cat by far, was the most a cat could be to a human...one in a million. Baby and Buddy were awesome too.
The vet's office called me to pick up Oscar's ashes, I put it off for about a week. When there, I was asked if we were interested in another dog. I said not really, but I'll take a look. She was neglected, her rib cage was showing. We needed each other, and yes, of course I brought her home. Bella, a Coonhound,(2 yr old) has revived our aching hearts.
We take her to an enclosed dog park (has a lake only for them on 8 acres of land). It's bittersweet as we did take Buddy, and Baby there. They no longer fetched, and swam. It was hard to watch the other dogs so full of life enjoying it. It sucked, but I was glad to still have them.
All of our dogs and cats have enriched our lives. They all were rescues, but really rescued us.
I didn't think I could go through loving another dog, the heartache of losing him/her. Coming home to a empty house was painful too.
We're doing what we've always done, again. It's worth it.
I felt a need to share this. We've been through it all. There is never "replacing" a pet. I'd like to say that " a new love story" has begun. And for those grieving now, the pain will lessen over time.

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

My last fur baby it devastated me so bad that for the first time in (I always have to figure this up lol) around 30 years I would not get another dog. I had not gone even one day without a dog in around 30 years so that tells you how bad her death did me. I grieved just as much with my other pets but this one yelped in pain for so long I could literally hear her yelps after she passed on. Two years after that I gave in and got the fur baby I have now and I can't imagine not having her. She has some traits of each of my previous pets but of course none can be replaced but our love always makes room for more. She's 11 and a half now, and I am already in tears if I even think about her health failing. As I say, it just gets harder or at least it does for me.
I'm so so sorry for your loss - that had to have been devastating :-( Oh how they steal our hearts!
Congratulations on finding another precious pup to share your home. That's courageous to risk your heart again.
I am so sorry for your loss
back in 2001 my dog, last dog i've ever had, had to be put to sleep...then i had to ok my mom a few months later being taken off life support at the hospital, she being my last close relative.
you were lucky at least to be able to help another animal out so soon after yours was gone----if monday is the last day for my cat i'm going right to a nearby shelter; i already contacted them, they have a cat that's been stuck there for FIVE YEARS...ok with me if cat not very friendly, poor cat i have right now was stuck at same shelter in 2006 for a year, not very friendly till last two years, and i care about him as much as if he was 4ver the most friendly cat in the world.
