This is always hard, but you are doing the best you can for him. All my sympathy.

Thank you for your concern and responce. I took him to the vet. The lump was an absece so that is good. He is just old and sick but no pain. So that is good. I just have to watch him for more abseces and keep him happy. smiles.

Rat Baby Boy is so sweet looking. It is just not fair if is only 4 1/2. But you said he was old. Do you mean 14 1/2. I have my Kujo. He is the white terrier in my photo. He is old. I started crying today because I have his cute photo on my screen saver at work. He is blind, deaf, has a heart murmur, and collapsed treckia. He coughs, but with the medication it helps. I just lost my Katie in March and Kujo is so old, it hurts me. I am still upset about Katie and do not want to lose another one. I know I need to count my blessings because I have had him for 11 years. I rescued him on the streets of Atlanta, Ga.
It is very hard, but this website got me through losing Katie so we all know how you feel. Just live in today and love him today. That's what I do.

Ouch. I understand how you're feeling right now. One of my cats was recently diagnosed with cancer. She is, as my mother would say, our one-in-a-million cat. She, too, gets meds, but it's to help her stay comfortable. We decided not to do chemo because it would be a horrible experience and probably wouldn't help her, anyway. She doesn't need that at the end of her life. It's hard. We love her so much, and it's hard to face the idea that she's going to die soon. We had her ever since I was a little kid (I just graduated from college last May).

I'm so sorry. I have had rats too. My Charlotte died from cancerous tumors when she was only 20mo. I was devastated. I was 12 yrs when I got her ( forever ago!) and she was my best friend. My vet operated and removed the lumps, but she died 4mo. later. My other rat, Terry, Charlotte's niece, lived to a healthy 3.5 yrs and passed quietly on her own. I was never as attached to her as to Charlotte. So, I have to admit I didn't take it as hard as when Charlotte died. I still dream of her sometimes and it's been like 30yrs! I know how this is for you 'cause I've been there. I do hope and pray for your Baby Boy and for you. Most people don't get that you can get so attached to and love a "rat", but we know better....don't we? Peace

Hey everyone,
Thank you so much for that support. Yep baby boy is 4 1/2 yrs old. Most rats live 3 yrs. So for him to be 4 1/2 yrs old he is pretty old. There are a few rats that live longer but it is very uncommon for them to live that long. He hates him meds and trys to spit it out and wiggles around but I tell him it is for his best and it will help him feel better. So he is doing ok right now. Just napping at the moment.

Debroah: As for Kujo and Katie I am so sorry your having to go through that. We love our babies so much. That is very hard that Katie passed away and knowing Kujo may soon. He sound like a trooper. What a dog. He sounds awesome. Same as Katie. She sounds like a sweetie. HUGS.

Estrella: I am soo sorry to hear about your cat. I bet she is 1 in million. They are all so sweet and special. That is good your guys will love and comfort her in her days. It is hard descions to make about not doing chemo but it is good that you know it wont help any really and to just let her live her life up to its fullest. Ya know? Congrats on graduating from college. smiles.

My prayer and thoughts are with you all. Our animals have blessed us for being our babies and that we got to love and take care of them. They teach us so much and are our compaions. We bless them but doing what we can for them, spoiling them, loveing them and just so much more. HUGS to you guys!! I am here if you guys need to talk. Leile: I am so sorry to hear about your rats even if it was a while ago. We still love our babies no matter what. Yeah when I was at the vet a women told me she could never love a "rat". I told her I love him the same as when I had my dog,Ashley for 11 1/2 yrs. They are my children. She smiles. She had a dog with her. So I think I got her to understand. That really sucks about Terry since she was so young. But she sounds like such a fun rattie. Charlotte sounds a fun rat. But I get what your daying about not being as attached to one rat over another. I have been the same about a few of my rats. We still love and still mourn for our babies. I'm so sorry. I know how hard it is. I also know that a lot of people may not have a lot of compassion over a rat because they've never known one.

I met a rat once and he was very sweet and cute. I hope that you get more time with your rat.
