All my close friends know I have BPD, well they know just about everything about my mental health, no shame there. BPD is not our fault, therefore why should we feel ashamed of having it. I know there's stigma attached to it, but if you are strong enough I would tell them.

Id advise only the closest of friends. I fell out with my friend after telling her and gotnicknamed f.ing psycho!
People who dont know the real you could make false judgements and then pass that onto someone else.
Im sure if people around me knew the truth that id no longer be trusted around their kids!

I would be very careful who i tell.There is a LOT of ignorance and stigma about this disorder.

But then again if you do you'll defenitely know who your true friends are and who's not.

My inlaws found out because the staff at the hospital told them (before the hippa laws) while I was inpatient. They were told to read a certain book and they were off and running. They told everyone that I was a manipulating person who slept with every tom dick and harry that came along. That I was not to be trusted with anything or anyone. My ex also used it against me in court to try to get out of a protective order and it almost worked!

I'd be careful with who you tell.
