Personality Disorders Support Group
Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.
It's a fine line- loving you but not having to open them up to a bunch of pain without harming them, but you still feeling supported. There should be a middle ground and maybe the 12 step program could help your family.
I wish I had some advice for you but I'm not very successful either. I am trying to get some meds for it though, Latuda was too expensive and lamictal gave me the rash. Now trying to find a pdoc to try something else. Unfortunately, meds have their own disadvantages like numbness, It really would be nice if they could come up with something more targeted to us but with all the research being done, maybe. Probably not in my lifetime but at least we do know there is a medical reason we act the way we do. Not a lot of consolation I know.
I told my husband that when I am "tripping," for the lack of a better word, I am SUFFERING!!! I just want an, "What can I do to help" or "I'm sorry you are feeling this way right now." If he tells me I'm being ridiculous... yeah, not good!
What is the medical reason???
My husband supports me in some ways but seems in the important ways he is so lacking. Wish I had known about this disorder years ago, might have been able to get proper treatment, but who knows, the treatment is not easy. I can manage to do the mindfulness when I'm in a normal mood and always tell myself I'm going to continue doing this but when my mood shifts it just seems impossible to even try the mindfulness.
tinue to hand me my meds so I don't deide I don't need them again. I do hate that he has had to take on this responsibility yet, at the same time I am glad he has. I feel better safer knowing I wont miss my meds if he can help it.life seems to be getting better.
