I have been on medications for 10 years. I was just diagnosed with Borderline about three months ago. My psychiatrist insists I see a therapist which I am all about but my insurance only covers group therapy. I need individual therapy. Well this new psychiatrist who gave me this new diagnosis is trying to make all these med changes; take me off my tried and true klonopin and put me on a cocktail of lamictal and abilify. I've been on lamictal since I've been seeing her and I wasn't too keen on taking it but she made it a condition of prescribing my klonopin (btw I've been on it for 5 years.) So I went along when she said she wanted to put me on abilify for the same reason. So now she's going on maternity leave and won't be in charge of my care. Now I didn't go to medical school but I don't think its good practice to.change a persons meds right before you take off or when you've only met with them three times. This couldn't come at a more inconvenient time cause Igot finals this week.

Oh and BTW if she's so sure I'm borderline why is she prescribing me medications? I feel like she really has no idea what she's doing!

Just a side note... I have never diverted or took more than what was prescribed to me and I feel that I'm being treated like an addict. I know benzodiazipines are habit forming but that should have been addressed years ago... I'm withdrawing right now and it is just awful. I never asked to be put on pills... WTF!

I feel your frustration and benzos are only addictive if you have an addictive personality some of us don't.

I was on a benzo for 19 YEARS.Never abused it and it had taken two years for my doctor and me to find that particular benzo that worked WONDERS for me.I would only take it 3-4x a week and in the same doae for 19 years........................Now that my doc retired if i asked for it.They imeditely jump to conclusions that i'm an addict.
That benzo saved my life, and i never became addicted to it.

I do not take it at the moment cause i have no doc,.

These doctor are IDIOTS.benzos in the prescribed dose are perfectly ok and sometime the best med.Why does she want to take you off a med that works for you???

What an idiot that oc is....I would report her.And explain.Yes very stupid to try you on new meds now that she's leaving. And very sutpid to take u off something that works.

IF your withdrawling thru benzo's I feel for you I've been there don't that. Meds are not 100 proven for boarderling because it is not chemical but I notice a lot of doctors using it so the lamactil I see. Why the abilify the anti-psychotic that woudlbe a agood answer for her.him what don't you like about my actions that you think I am psychotic. I don't blame you for being hesitant because all doctors like their cocktails ans who ikinow s the next one might change it up again. Keep up with your theraphy that is a tried and true proven method.

I am so sorry. As someone else said, benzos are only addictive if you have an addictive personality. I don't so it's OK for me to take my Ativan.

I HAVE had my meds messed with by someone going on maternity leave, but I allowed it. My pdoc is good and the person covering was good as well.

Do you know the covering psychiatrist? Will you have someone to call? If you are concerned, call the office. They have to have someone covering for her.

And I love your comment if your borderline why is she prescribing meds. It sounds like she's not only prescribing meds but prescribing bipolar medications.

I have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder AND BPD. My medications help manage my bipolar symptoms. There are some medications that also help treat the symptoms of BPD like depression and anxiety - like your Klonopin. The main treatment is therapy.

By the way, many DBT groups require that you have an individual therapist as that's a big part of the program.

As lame as it sounds I had my mom call the insurance company and as it turns out I can receive individual therapy. Also she got my klonopin script sent through faster... Awesome! She can be a great advocate for me when she's not drunk...but none of that. For now I'm just happy not to be withdrawling.

I don't have an addictive personality but some people in my family do. Yea I'm gonna switch to a new Dr. because she doesn't seem to know what she is doing. I mean it took me years to find that klonopin and nothing else has helped and I am not trying to fix something that ain't broke!

Again I want to thank you for your responses. It really helps to find validation from people who get it! :)

I don't have an addictive personality to drugs either.
And the scary part is none of my family does either.They are that dysfunctional and cruel sober, IMAO.

Now that is scary shit.But no my schotzophrenic mother got prescribed valium and she took it as prescribed for 40 years and then one day she stopped it cause she did not want to be on it. and that's it.I'm not sure if her schizophrenia got wrose or better..........neither i think.Its bad and it stayed bad.
