Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.
i may have posted something like this before but i wanted to get some opinions on this.....i also didn't know where exactly to post this, but it gets my BPD acting up so i figured this was a good place......there is a girl from my area who has been missing since wednesday....she is 14....she was dropped off at dance class but never went.....she was seen on surveillance cameras talking on her cell phone and she's been missing....i guess she posted something about hurting herself on social media and then minutes later it was deleted.....then there was talk that she was seen on a street nearby shortly after she went missing but since then no one has seen her.....so today i was at work checking out people's groceries....these two women were talking about her.....one woman said,"well all this talk about her hurting herself...?" then she rolled her eyes...the other woman said,"oh, i know!! it's just ridiculous!!! i was talking to my daughter and she said that she thinks she just ran away and so do i!!!" the other woman said,"yeah, she must have....i mean nothing is THAT bad that you have to hurt yourself or kill yourself...i mean really!!!" and then i stopped listening because i was pissed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! whenever people say things like that or whenever people say that suicide is selfish i disagree being in that situation where i felt suicide was the only option.....in my experience i felt like it was the only option, the way for everything to disappear, the way to make other people's lives easier....anyway, does this make anyone else mad when people say these things or am i alone in this??? sorry if this is more of a rant
That being said, I DO think suicide is selfish because they forget the grief they are going to cause and leave behind.
Also, don't take anything on the media -- social or otherwise -- too seriously. Just worry about your own mental safety and try not to concern yourself with gossip.

Those two women obviously were fortunate enough to not have felt suicidal or experienced the need to harm themselves. If you havent been there yourself or known someone who has felt that way the notion of self-harming or suicide can be incomprehensible.
There will always be aspects of other peoplesways of thinking, feelings and attitudes that seem impossible to understand and I guess we just have to put up with that even when it hurts. Im sorry youve had suicidal feelings. I havent quite been there but I have been extremely low, felt my life was completely worthless and been obsessed about death. Sometimes jokes about mental illness/eating disorders etc. can seem horribly NOT funny.
I hope the missing girl is found soon and I hope shes alive.
