I have read so many posts from those of us who feel stigmatized by family, friends and society. It used to really bother me that people might find out about me. After I hit rock bottom, I found a place within me that I never really knew existed. How I feel about myself is my demon to fight but NEVER EVER again will I allow another human being to treat me like a less than. Think and say what ever you want about me but there is no one on this planet who can make me feel worse about myself than I can. I try to be a good person, I try to accept others, I try to have compassion and empathy. This is more than I can say about many people I have encountered. So I simply choose not to let them bother me. I say consider the source of the negative comments and you will see it is only for their own gain (usually to feel superior to you). Hold your heads high. Unlike most people we are painfully aware of who we are but at least we try to be better. Peace my friends

Your are so wise Lost! The things you say is what I use to say to people who were having these problems when I was more stable.

If I could have a dollar for every time I beat myself up, I would be a millionaire.

Funny how love, empathy and compassion can easily turn into hate, apathy and indifference...All signs of borderlines and/or bipolars.

Amen, sister!! Some days, I feel really empowered and want to do good with all the things that I know about this b.s... And then other days, I sit and wonder why I even bother. Oh the joys of borderline. I think, and perhaps it's just me, that because we've been through so much chaos and bullshit throughout our lives that we tend to empathize with people more because we know how it is, how it can be, and how much life can suck completely at times. I've also found that people who love to point fingers and remind you of all your flaws are the people who are struggling inside with their own demons. You are absolutely correct in that we shouldn't let this define us. It's really hard sometimes though, because it can take control of your entire being... I'm finding more and more that the whole black/white thinking plays a huge factor in how allow myself to view who I really am. If that makes any sense at all...

I had a really great therapist, whom I love dearly and would give a kidney to, that helped me with my black and white. For me there will never be gray. But she helped me see green, blue, red, purple, yellow and orange. I know it sounds weird but instead of all or nothing she taught me to choose something of equal or greater value to me to focus on.

Lost -- I feel the very same way, but it's taken me a LONG time to get here. I'm ill -- if I had suffered from another illness I would not blame myself for it nor feel like I deserved to be punished.

I really have brought a lot of self hate upon myself.

Now -- to figure out "WHO I AM" without the labels. =)
