Personality Disorders Support Group
Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.
I wish I had someone tell me what I was doing wrong all of the time. Only, I need it in a way that I can hear it and not have it tear me up. It is hard to hear things like what your therapist might say but....maybe try to think of his counsel as a flu shot. Just a physical component of your health. that way, if your mistake is like the flu, you can get rid of it.
I listened. He stated that he was provoked because he was pushing me to see my part and my blame for my co-worker hitting me and I was just crying. My crying provoked him and he stated that "Did I want him to hit me" because that was probably want my co-worker was thniking so it was my fault I got hit.
I was crying face down in his pillow and had a really hard time getting it back to together.
During the last meeting, they told me to go to the least respected therapist in our town, like throwing me to the wolves.
He told me " I was the worst patient he had ever had and that I had not changed in 9 years."
WOW little different than 3 weeks before when He said I was doing good and had grown so much.
When i teach, i have said to kids that, " i dont have this or that issue with the other classes" and that is a way of getting compliance if i cant figure out what to do. A study on this site by Cyndi Sarnoff says that negativity is sadly more effective at changing anothers behavior than is positivity. Revenge is more common than returning favors, for example, so therapists might use negativity from time to time like yours did in his own way.
As for provoking..... U kinda have been provoking lately. Sorry but when u say this or that holiday sucked, happy such and such a holiday, that i think is provoking. The sarcastic "happy holidays" to be exact. The name u give yourself, llonelylady, is another example. Why not change it to something more neutral, less provocative of a negative response?
You get hit at work. That totally sucks right there!!
Your terrorist, I mean therapist, is trying to get you to see your own part in the assault...your "blame". I'm having a hard time with that alone.
He thinks you wanted to be hit? Wtf. Seriously.
Us borderline women just ask for it, now don't we?
Then, he actually said that to you? "do you want me to hit you"?
It is a shame that he had to discharge you in such a way. He could have admitted his failure to help you more, his frustration should be with himself, not you.
9 years...a long time with one therapist, especially to have it end so brutally, disappointingly, painfully and not even face to face.
Cheap shot too...about the 9 years and you being the worst client and not changing at all. What good came out of telling you that??
I hope you can find a better therapist...don't settle for the worst in town!
I hope that DBT skills help you find some solace in this shituation.
Sending you some peace and hopes for a soft landing. Take care.
Sometimes when I want to help, i end up saying things that sound out of place.
I did not mean for the last post to be taken in a critical way but it did sound critical...so I apologize.
You don't deserve any of this nonsense
