Personality Disorders Support Group
Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.
My counselor at the time was awful. Ideally he would have helped me learn to fit the skills in my own life, but he was not good at it.
That said, after I left that program, I found a DBT counselor who was right for me. She helped me fit the program into my life.
Since that time, my BPD has been much better under control in the last 7 years. I do not believe I will ever be "cured," but I am much more skillful at dealing with it.
You do have to be open to learning. Not all of the skills are necessary for everyone (you will already be skilled in some areas), but many of the skills will be difficult. Keeping an open mind and trying to remember that these skills really will help is important. Sometimes I would think, "This can not possibly help," or, "this seems really stupid," but would later find it really did help.
I hope that helps!

I found a DBT counselor when I moved who is willing to see me as needed. I have seen him probably 25 times in 4 years. He helps me sort things out when I am having a tough time and refreshes the skills for me.
This seems crucial to me as I do not want to go backwards.
