Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.
i was wondering if anyone here has it. i am pretty sure my boyfriend does. i was worried he was going to need meds because i thought he was clinically depressed, but i've noticed he has said he has a lot of things. he was telling me that he is impulsive, a pathological liar, manipulative, and depressed.
he said it's all because of his family and he had a very bad childhood with a lot of anger and he tried to kill himself when he was 4. he doesn't remember that at all, but his brother saved his life.
so i looked up depressive personality disorder and it basically said that they don't enjoy anything and it said stuff about lying and being manipulative and impulsive.
he lied to me a lot about drugs in the beginning of our relationship and he finally told me because he took acid and it made him realize that he would ruin our relationship if he kept lying.
he is getting better about lying and stuff but he has become very very depressed. i'm pretty sure he has this though, and that's a pretty good diagnosis because he is coming with me to my therapist and we are doing dialectical behavior therapy.
does anyone here have any idea how to help him?
and also anyone knowing any books about this would be really helpful too.

He may read you wrong if you feel compelled to always save him... he may think that you think he is an invalid ( I know it sounds weird). Try to show him that you believe in him and that you are thankful he is around, be careful to not be codependent though, (take care of yourself too so that you can shine for him and cheer him up in turn)
My mom had it before she went nuts.. I am trying to stay away from having this disorder.
