Peptic Ulcers Support Group
A peptic ulcer is an ulcer of one of those areas of the gastrointestinal tract that are usually acidic. Most ulcers are now known to be associated with Helicobacter pylori, a spiral-shaped bacterium that lives in the acidic environment of the stomach. About 4 % of gastric ulcers are caused by a malignant tumor, which is one reason to be vigilant in their detection.
So far I have found collagen powder to really help, although I had to stop taking it as it was giving me bad acid reflux. I then tried the supplements L-proline, lysine and glycine together and after a few months one of my ulcers had almost healed. Unfortunately, I had to stop taking the glycine as it was affecting my thyroid function (I have hypothyroidism). After a couple of months after stopping the glycine the ulcer which had almost healed got worse again. I'm having a lot of trouble trying to treat the ulcers as it's difficult having hypothyroidism as well. Because of this I can't take any medications as they interact with my thyroid medication.
I don't really take anything to combat the flare ups but I take an antacid pill almost everyday. I hear ginger root works well with acid reflux. I haven't tried magnesium yet but there are so many good things that it does to help prevent ulcers and reduce stomach acid. These are all natural vitamins but you shouldn't take my word on these as you probably already know and see a doctor as soon as possible! Good luck with everything, if you have anymore questions don't hesitate to ask!
