We would receive flowers wired from Sweden every xmas. My Father's family were florists. Always, lovely.
One year, a Poinsettia arrived in what looked like a gold colored cereal bowel. Truly, I knew this was not what was sent, judging by past arrangements.
I called the Florist who filled the order and complained. They said there was a mix-up and I received the wrong piece. "Yeah Right"
Ok, this happened again, the following year. I did the same thing. The downshot is that you really cannot tell the person who sent them. Though if it was me, you could tell me. Now the FTD type companies show pictures of arrangements and even then you may not get what you ordered, they will have a disclaimer saying "or equivalent value, or similar arrangement".
Most people are so happy to just receive a piece of flowers they settle for sub-standard quality. My family say I am crazy, because I have shared with some friends who have sent me pieces that I called and complained. They may have felt insulted, so it is a double-edge sword, cause after I told them, I never received another floral arrangement again.
I still say, call up and change them, get your money's worth, or the sender's moniesworth. They will be fresh and last much longer, especially if you ask for a vase and a mixed bouquet, vs. a foam oasis, which mostly contain filler ferns anyway.
What's your opinion? Am I wrong? Is it tacky to complain to the Flower Shop? What if you just do not tell the sender? I have gotten into trouble because I am so stubborn when it comes to this subject. Up to 800% markups. Forget Valentine's Day, awful.
Go to the supermarket, get a $5.00 bouquet if your visiting. Most folks have a vase in the house and some love to arrange their own way. Save your money. $ ca-ching.

also, at work, we have received flowers and arrangements that looked horrible!! I have called the person sending them to tell them how 'tacky' the arrangments, flowers,plants were............
That gets results really fast......
Some grocery stores have better flowers than the expensive flower shops........
NYC has flowers all over the place.....
The Farmer's market also has prety flowers.......buy them for myself when I go.......why not?
I had rather send a gift card than flowers, but carrying flowers to a friend's is a lovely gesture.......LOVE fresh flowers!!
anytime you get flowers via delivery, send your friend/family sender a thank you note with a photo of the flowers included. Just saying "thanks for the thoughtful gift" and let them decide if they think they got what they paid for.
I agree -- if you're seeing someone in person, always buy/hand carry your flowers. I recycle the vases so I always have a few under the kitchen sink for this purpose so I can often just take the vase too and have them prearranged sometimes.
it was supposed to be a fresh fall arrangement for our 10th anniversary.
instead it was an OLD plain terracotta chicken with a vase in the back, with some horrible polyester flowers that were so old, they had spider webs and dust on them. the whole thing smelled of cigarette smoke, like 10 years worth.
we complained and told my inlaws, who complained. I think the company replaced it with the right thing, only b/c we involved my inlaws. we handed them back the old nasty original thing and they said "don't you want to keep it?" we just laughed and shut the door. = )
We ordered an arrangement for an employee from a local shop. I went to pick it up because they now have a $10 DELIVERY FEE! When I got there, they brought out a $12.00 dollar arrangement that you could have purchased from the local grocery store (we paid 50). If they had delivered it, I would have never known. So I naturally complained about it. They replaced it on the spot with one that was more suitable.
whenever possible, I'll call the recipient's florist directly (if I don't know, I'll google someone)
but dealing directly with the end florist saves the FTD fee, and they seem to be more accountable that way and nothing gets lost in translation and so on.
my own yard and put in a vase if I am going to hospital nearby. I have
been totally embarassed when I am at a funeral home and see what I have
paid for. One local florist sent a nice arrangement to a funeral home
and I bragged to the shop how pleased I was. So, when I wanted a nice basket of different items in a basket sent to an engaged couple I had
for a short time, what was sent looked like I spent
a couple of dollars for it,,won't shop there anymore.
My mom lives in Arizona. I ask my sister to go to the nearby Safeway and get an arrangement. This is less costly and my sister sees what she is paying for. I also get the phone numbers of Safeway, Albertsons, etc. near my relatiges and call directly. This has worked very well.
They have a website you can go on- they run a lot of specials too.
