An open forum to exchange ideas how to save money and get the biggest bang out of our bucks during these rough economic times. Any and all ideas and suggestions are welcome. From savings at the pump to to vacations, groceries, doctors and anything else in between you can think of!
I have to buy one of those giant bottles of dish washing liquid every two weeks at about 3.59 a bottle. I also use it to wash my hands with at the sink alot. My mother says that washing my hands with just water and no soap would get my hands clean enough after taking out the trash, doing laundry, going to the bathroom etc. I was just wondering what the rest of you think about no-soap hand washing? It would save me some money and help my septic tank to not put all that soap down the drain. I heard on tv that most germs get washed down the drain with just water. What do you guys think?
My mom used to take the little left over pieces of a bar that are too small to use, she would save a small can and put them in it. After she had enough she would add a small amount of hot water, just enough to make the pieces melt together and let the new bar cure. Than she used up the pieces by making a bar out of them.
it will last longer, you will save money.
when i empty a soap bottle I keep it.
I also keep shampoo,dishsoap,liquid handsoap,laundry, ect.
as 1 gets empty I use the 1st bottle I save & use a funnel to drain the last little bit out of each bottle.
i set them up in a corner so the top bottle will stay in the funnel & drain out into bottom bottle, wait a few hrs & top 1 is empty.
it all emptys into 1 bottle & works good for a handsoap which you normaly would've thrown in trash.
I also put my dishsoap into a small 'pump' bottle on sink for doin dishes.
by using the pump bottle, I use less dishsoap for doin dishes.
there's enough in 2 squirts for a sinkfull with the regular bottles ppl tend to use more than needed.
Also the laundry soap....
I use less than half the companys recommended amount & still get clean clothes.
& use less soap in turn saving more money...
rub your hands in sand & that will take dirt off them,
or other stuff.
you may use less dishsoap if you try the 'pump bottle'

When I was a kid we had a rather large family , plus constant loads of visitors.
for meals, playtime ect. 1 big bottle of dishsoap lased a bit more than a month.
