I have been trying to make dish washing soap, I have been saving up the slivers of bar soap chopping them up and putting them into old dishwasher bottles with very hot water. I shake and have been using it. There has to be a better recipe than this. Maybe glycerol(sp)? A little lemon juice or extract for color smell? Does anyone have a Dishwashing Soap recipe? I must say that the deodorent soap sure kills the smell of garlic on the frying pans.
I would like one for the dishwasher too, but would be afraid cause of over sudsing. That would not be a savings.

I ran out of dishwasher detergent and used regular detergent, and I had soap suds all over the place.........
What a mess!!......lol!!
If I see anything, will share.......interesting idea......
* 2 Bars shredded Octagon soap
* 1 cup baking soda
* 1/4 cup washing soda
* 1/4 cup lemon juice
Directions
Put shredded soap in 4 1/2- 5 quarts of water and melt on stove. When melted, turn stove off and add all other ingredients and stir. When cooled down, pour in sealed containers.
Use as you would any other dish detergent. The only thing is that it doesn't suds much but gets dishes real clean. Hope this works for you!

Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
20 Mule Team Borax
Distilled White Vinegar
Here's what you do
* Step 1: Add one tablespoon of Super Washing Soda to the dishwasher dispenser
* Step 2: Add one tablespoon of 20 Mule Team Borax to the dishwasher dispenser
You're done. That's the recipe for homemade dish washing detergent. Now the recipe for removing the water spots that so frequently occur with automatic dishwashers:
* Pour distilled white vinegar into the dispenser for the clear rinse gel.
Once you've run your dishwasher, be sure to hold your glasses up to the light and inspect them thoroughly. You'll find that the homemade detergent cleans as well if not better than the store bought detergent.
Cost Comparison:
Depending on how much you pay for your dish washing detergent and how much you pour into the dispenser will determine how much you are paying per wash for your detergent and spot removing gel.
The cost for this recipe is less than 4 cents per load.
