Parkinson's Disease Support Group
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. The primary symptoms of Parkinsons are due to excessive muscle contraction, normally caused by the insufficient formation and action of dopamine, which is produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the...
WELCOME TO OUR GROUP. I will happily answer your questions as will many others.
When I joined I spent a few days reading old posts up to a y ear old to get a foundation underneath me.
We know what you're going through.
Hang tough.

Good advice. I'll try to do that soon.
Welcome to the group. I don't have PD but my husband has had it for 7 years. He was diagnosed at 59 years, so it wasn't exactly early onset.
His symptoms are worse now but his progression is rated as slow.
He is facing a challenge next week as he has lung cancer and going for surgery.
There is another website called www.my parkinsons, org that you should check out. They are also very supportive to and also a early onset section.

This group can be good about responses, but as others have posted, may also be spotty at times. Some of the best - and most valuable - PD information I have gotten has come from this group, so you are definitely in the right place!
I don't keep a journal entry but I do respond to questions here when I can, and I make posts as I have questions (or feel the posts are necessary). That method has always worked well for me.
I might be too early onset for you to want to reach out to, but I am 28. I started tremoring at 21 and was diagnosed several years ago. My PD isn't considered "classical" and so I have a few symptoms other people in our group seem not to have, and some of my symptoms are "advanced" for my age (for example: because I have a low platelet count I bruise easy, which has led my PD tremors to leave bruises on my body from the inside out -- I am SO not kidding! I also wasn't getting enough sleep in grad school and so my muscles got fatigued at the end of last year and my tremors caused a muscle in my heart wall to pull itself, also NOT kidding!).
If it helps I understand the struggle of PD with family ties; I am too young for grandchildren, but my daughter will be seven in a month and a half. :) I'm not working because I am in grad school (and the school places limitations on how much you can work while in the program), but before grad school I was the Director of Marketing and Human Resources for a local business looking to expand. It ended up being a corporate-shark type job by the time I was finished (I got business booming), so while I don't know what you do for work, I would be happy to talk about the work/school dynamic while raising little ones, and managing PD?
Feel free to PM me if you would like! I can be a little hit-or-miss but I do try to check this account every day. :)
I hope you are able to find answers, community, and hope here.
