Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. I had a lot of naseau with it and was constantly vomiting and had terrible chest pains. I had to stop taking it. That was about a year ago.
I am now taking Azilect once a day with good results.

I saw a world-renown Neurologist when I was first diagnosed (drove 2 hours to see him so after getting acclimated he referred me to a protege of his nearer home). I told him I was NEVER taking levadopa. He of course knew why. We all think it is the medicine and the need for increased doses that caused all the problems. It is true that there are some side effects but the complaint that "it stops working" is not quite true, he explained. He said he had some patients on it for 20 years without having problems with the levadopa or carbi/levadopa. Others, he said, had increased symptoms after only a short time. He explained that it is the disease process, not the medicine that is affecting how long and how well it works. My sister was an RN who observed clinical trials years and years ago when Levadopa was first on the market. She said in a big room full of people with almost identical symptoms there was a wide range of responses. Some who had not walked well in years were able to get up and walk. Others had no response at all. They all had varying stages or variations of the same disease process. So here we are. We just have to keep trying and working to get the right combination and dose for the best relief of symptoms, eat well, exercise, and rest. I think we need a good joke a couple of times a day as well!
