Parkinson's Disease Support Group
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. The primary symptoms of Parkinsons are due to excessive muscle contraction, normally caused by the insufficient formation and action of dopamine, which is produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the...
I have just started to experience the stiffness but am not in any real stress situations now so I am not sure. I like you though experienced a big increase in the tremors during stressful situations when I was still working. They would get to the point where my coworkers would constantly be asking if I was ok. Sorry I am not much help on the stiffness but am curious to see the responses for future reference.
Heres hoping that you can start to relax and loosen up.
Tim

I know exactly what you mean about stress affecting tremors and stiffness. My Tremor goes beserk with any emotion and like BP when I get stressed my arm tightens and curls inwards.
I've noticed a sharp increase in stiffness with stress, the tension held in the body stiffens the muscle. To make matters worse when I'm overly stressed my exercise schedule usually goes to pot too so this lack of movement only exacerbates the problem and I completely seize up.
I really feel for you, hang in there.
Julie
It has been my experience that stress makes every aspect of PD worse. Stress really is our biggest enemy. I know when I am stressed or under pressure of any kind, everything falls apart and goes from bad to worse. The body movements, the rigidity and fatigue all just go way over the mark. And I don't usually suffer with tremors but when I am put under stress, I shake like I can't believe. And it seems to me that the harder I try to bring things under control, the worse it gets. So, i have learned to go get in my recliner and concentrate on relaxing. OK, now to make a long story short, yes, I do think your stiffness gets worse with stress.
Take care,
Joanee
Best wishes to you.

I am sorry for anyone on here that has pain. Desert rat - how stiff are you? I know you were and are very athletic. Does that factor in?
Someday soon guys - the CURE
And yes Schells I do believe there is a correlation to my athletic activities and my PD stiffness. I always had problems with pulled muscles even back to my high school sports. As I look back I bet the ol' PD was working on me way back then.
As for stiffness, just recently I have started with a pain on the left side of my neck real painful. Over the past few weeks I've treat myself to a few sport massage sessions which have really helped ease my painful neck and the stiffness in my shoulders, back, arms & legs. Stess of any kind is bad for triggering PD symptoms, I've found that even when I'm startled and elated can set off the tremours too.
Yours Sincerely Dirky !!;O))xx
With me there is no doubt it makes my tremors go burzerk... i wasn't really sure if it was causing the stiffness or if that was just a result of stopping the exercising for a week... i'm finding now i can differentiate the stiffness i get from exercising (i call that the good stiffness) and the stiffness from the devil.. i seem to experience that every night at same time and it's like you described backpacker but with my leg and my foot curls inward... when my daughter sees it she comes over and massages it for me (i try to turn it in on my own just to get an awesome massage sometimes but she sees right through that... somehow she knows when it's real or i'm faking lol)
Thank you all again for your comments... keep moving... and stay well... love paula
