Out of curiosity, have many of you experienced family or friends stepping over that line of helpful to the side of disrespectful? For instance, my father's Parkinson's have taken his voice for the most part. He can still talk, but have to make a real effort in his volume. His stability on his feet is quickly declining, but he works hard at keeping his muscle tone up. We have a family business from his side of the family, that has been in operations for 80 years now. My older sister, and her husband are currently working on learning the ropes to be able to run it on their own when the time comes. In the meantime, both of my parents still work there. My mother fulltime, and my father part time. This business has been my fathers whole life. Recently, my sister and brother-in-law decided that they needed to rearrange my fathers office for his safety, since he does fall a lot. He was fine with that. Where they crossed the line, was that they made the decision to remove his drafting table, with the excuse that he doesn't use it really anymore. He has asked several times that they put it back in his office, but my sister has refused. This has really upset him. I have explained to her that it isn't about the how much he uses the table, but more that she treated him like he has no say over his things. She unfortunately made the comment to him, that if he could show her that wouldn't fall in his office for more then a month, then she would consider putting the drafting table back. Well come on now! That is not fair! This is a progressive disease! She has been doing this more and more. My mother is overwhelmed, and doesn't want to fight her, and now my father is hurt and angry that he is being treated like he has no say over his things, and life. I am 500 miles away, and was told by my sister that since I made the choice to move away, I don't get to have a say in his care. Ha, yeah, no. So my question is, are many of feeling or experiencing similar issues with friends or family trying to "help"?
