Parkinson's Disease Support Group
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. The primary symptoms of Parkinsons are due to excessive muscle contraction, normally caused by the insufficient formation and action of dopamine, which is produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the...
The side effect you are describing sounds like the big "Groggy"
feeling that I have with Sinemet (generic). I have been taking it for over 6 years, and it has never gone away. It is hard to know how things will affect you until you try them for awhile. I notice that my grogginess/drugged-feeling only has increased as my dosage has increased over the years. This makes it hard for me to do and rapid acitvity that includes turning quickly. Yet, every month or so I find that I am able to participate in my dance class for all 1 1/2 hrs. with minimal grog/dizziness and come away feeling VERY good for dancing vigorously. It makes me feel better during and long after I have stopped. I recommend it, whenever you can manage to do it, to exercise vigorously in a safe environment. Dancing demands a very intricate types of movement, which will stimulate your brain and your whole body.

This is the first time I have been part of a support group on line.Switched to a movement disorder specialist last week and she confirmed PD. I just started taking Stalevo 75 (only one per day but will work up to 2) and Requip .25 three times a day. For the past three days I have been really dizzy and have that foggy feeling too. Anyone else feel like a space cadet? I am trying to get daily exercise - water aerobics reallly works great.
Thanks for your comments. Joy

I was dx'd in 2002. I went on Sinemet then as I wanted to work as long as possible. No strange feelings, but I quickly learned to self medicate (with my neuro's blessing). I went from a single 25/100 twice a day to, now, one every 2 hours. I have no fine motor skills without it, and only some with it. I went on disability 1 and 1/2 years ago.
Oh well, I just do what I can without worrying about it. There are plenty of worse things out there, believe me!
All the best,
Fred
