Parkinson's Disease Support Group
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. The primary symptoms of Parkinsons are due to excessive muscle contraction, normally caused by the insufficient formation and action of dopamine, which is produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the...
I DELAYED SINEMET as long as I could in order to attend HS and college graduations and God willing, in the Spring son graduates Law School. A PROUD and sacred time for us has been proof reading his papers in school and spending many hours improving and polishing the structure and flow,. It is something I will long remember as a really great bond. I write very relaxed here and make errors. He did all the rewrites, I just kept showing him what needed to be done over,.
My point is, I had to struggle through years with just Amantadine in order to be there for these times because the Sinemet only helps for a limited time and then we're up the proverbial CREEK pronounced CRICK,.

The watch would be worth looking into. I think I've seen people use them, so they must be available, but I don't know where.
You have found a great support group. You will always find support, understanding, new information, and a multitude of opinions and perspectives on PD, treatments, doctors, research and many other things here.
I just recently lost my doctor (movement specialist) as she returned to the west coast. She was the only one in the state. Apparently there are not many doctors focusing on movement disorders as a specialty.
From interaction on this site, I have found that PD is a very personal disease. No two people experience PD the same way or react to drugs in the same way. Give your neuro a chance until you have reason to think otherwise. You can always get feedback on any question you have by visiting this site.
Wish you the best....
I've checked into possibly seeing a Movement Disorder Specialist but the closet one is just a little too far for me drive. I've heard and read a lot of good things about using a MDS instead of a neurologist. So was wondering if you were able to locate an MDS close to you and if you were going to start seeing them.
My neurologist is kind of arrogant and definitely doesn't like to hear that I have done any research online for possible other medications that might help with some of my symptoms so I just continue on the medication path he has me on. He does make adjustments to the dosage but it's still not providing any reduction in my symptoms.
Keep me posted on how the adjustments to your medications are working for you.
Another thing is exercise - it has proven that this is the one thing besides taking the meds that helps us. I have found in my own life that exercise has helped me physically, mentally and spiritually to live with this disease. Tai Chi is excellent for PD. I've been to a couple of seminars that stressed Tai Chi. This diseases symptoms because it is in the brain affects us mentally, spiritually and physically - our whole being. Exercise is the same way.
Also the sinement and Azilect should be taken at least one hour apart if not even more because it counteracts or something like that if you take them together. I took mine together for a couple of years before I was told that so now I take them apart.
On the NPF site they have a great sweetheart of a pharmacist who answers questions. He has PD as well - so he knows what he is talking about. At the NPF site you have to set up an ID and password and then go into forums. The dr. and nutritionist as well and all of them are very knowledgeable about our disease. Good luck.
You're too funny. The part about writing in a journal is scarier than your PD symptoms cracked me up. Journal writing can be fun once you get into it. It will help your therapist track possible trigger points. I guess you have to enjoy writing though to like the thought of keeping a daily journal.
Good luck next week with your visit with a new Neurologist. And you're right - if you don't like him then just keep the one you have and try to just ignore his secretary if at all possible.
