Has anyone else had a problem with incontinence? My hubby is really having trouble. No pain, burning or anything else. We have been to the urologist and he has given him two different prescriptions and nothing is helping. He has examined the prostate and there seems to be no problem there. He is to the point that he has absolutely no control. He is wearing the depends for men. It seems as long as he is sitting down he is o.k. but the minute he gets up it starts leaking. Thanks for any info. that you might share.

I'm sorry to hear your husband is struggling with this Firelady. I've heard it's more common for patients in the later stages of Parkinson's. All I've read is that it's treated with medication and wearing protective undergarments. I wonder though if talking with a physical therapist might help- maybe there are some abdominal type exercises he could do that would help strengthen the muscles around his bladder? Just a thought. ((hugs)) Connie

Connie, Thank you for your response. I guess I am frustrated because the urologists just tells him to wait and come in for his appointment on the 19th. He just does not seem concerned. I will try and do some research and possibly contact his Neurologist.. Blessings to you.

Bladder problems are indeed a problem with some PD patients. I have problems myself and and so sorry that your husband is going through this. You are right, it is almost as if the doctors shrug it off like "oh well, you do have PD after all"

So sorry to hear of your hubby's incontenance. My husband has it also. He wears Depends at night and will releave himself at least twice, it will not hold three. So when it is his third he asks for help. Thank goodness during the day if he is able to get to the rest room fast, he is ok otherwise when he comes out I see evidence. How embarassing for us. The doctor has been giving him Sanctura twice a day, he can't him more. Hope you find something to help him, let us know.

Urinary incontinence is common in PD patients and the type you described falls under Urge Incontinence. The brain's ability to control this function is interrupted by PD which creates an increase in frequency and urgency. Besides limiting fluids and retraining the bladder, pelvic floor exercises would also help. Good luck. TeeCee

thanks for the info. We did indeed go to the Primary doctor and she prescribed meds. When that did not work we were referred to a urologist. Both doctors checked the prostate and found no problems. The urologist gave some meds and he has been on them for 2 weeks with no relief. He says he does not feel any pressure or need to go. I encourage him to go often. But he says he can tell it just kind of dribbles all the time. Neither doctor has mentioned a connection to PD. When I called the urologist and told him (through his nurse) that it was not working they said just keep taking it and keep his appointment on the 19th. That's what is frustrating. You just want to go through the phone and GET somebody. LOL Thanks to all of you for you concern.
