Parkinson's Disease Support Group
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. The primary symptoms of Parkinsons are due to excessive muscle contraction, normally caused by the insufficient formation and action of dopamine, which is produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the...
Does that mean if a person decides to go on meds that is all the longer some of them work, then you have to switch or worse symptoms start up ??
I was diagnosed quite early with PD aged 34 in 1993/4... and with a large percentage of Young Onset PD... progression is mostly pretty slow thankfully... in my case is so.
After the initial shock of diagnosis, it took me quite a while to adjust as I should think many others did/do too.
I've always had a strong resilient spirit and very strong willed some may say stubborn...anyway, I think those are very important attributes to have to help you/us cope with PD at any stage and with any other long standing illness and of course worse illnessess which are terminal.
Providing you keep relatively active but keep a close eye on your energy levels and eat sensibly and just as important developing a strong positive attitude towards PD and to be able to laugh at yourself and generally have humour in your life helps more than you realise... the first 5/10 years should hopefully pass without too major discomfort..... As we all different in how we cope, symptoms vary from person to person.
Please try not to worry or fret to much about what the future may hold, I've done that and it doesn't help. I take each day as it comes and try to keep myself in good spirits and keep as upbeat as possible.
I wish you well.
Yours Sincerely Dirk !!;O))xxx (HUGS(
Like a honeymooning couple on a squeaky bed, I'm enjoying my drug honeymoon period now. I hope it lasts.

Being just positive alone to me would be like not studying for your driver's test and then being positive you will pass it. (ha-ha -- that is what I did at 16 yrs old, guess what -- it didn't work !! ) I learned alot from that, albeit in a much different situation of course. By the way I passed it the next time !
Have a great week everyone.

BTW: I've had two separate DBS/STN implants. The first, for my left side, was in 2003. The second was in 2009 for my right side symptoms. Both of which were extremely successful!
I'm still in honeymoon period with my partner after 11 years, so pd, watch out , that's where l will put you :)
