Parkinson's Disease Support Group
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. The primary symptoms of Parkinsons are due to excessive muscle contraction, normally caused by the insufficient formation and action of dopamine, which is produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the...
Another thing I have found to be helpful is to keep a small notebook of daily activities and how the meds are working or not working and symptoms that appear and disappear and what I was doing at the time I noticed the change. I also write down questions that I would like to ask, so I have it in writing the next office visit. That way I never leave the office without having discussed everything that has occurred since the previous visit. It can be time-consuming, but it does come in handy. Have your wife make notes of things she notices, too. Please disregard if you are doing so already.
Again, it is fantastic to hear that life is getting better for you. Sometimes its the small victories that mean the most. Please let us know what happens at your next visit.
I do agree about keeping notes. I keep a daily activity book (like I did when I worked) -- it helps me see if some days, the activities of the day before catch up with me. I can also see I have a LOT of good days. Best to you!
It's nice to feel good ! I can't tell you all how long it's been since I've felt somewhat normal . Not saying that I don't still have issues, but I feel good in my head, and can hold my cup of coffee lol.
I like the idea of keeping notes and writing down questions as they come up. I tend to be very forgetful and by the time I get to my Neuro I forgot most of my questions. However, he is so good that he answers many questions before I ask.
The one question he wont answer is, where do you expect me to be 10yrs from now? He prob knows my heart will give out before my PD gets the better of me. LOL
One of my favorite sayings is, life is what we make of it. I choose to be as happy and normal as possible. Learn to adapt and overcome.
Party like a rock star ! Ok maybe I'm going a little overboard on that one. Hell who am I kidding. One beer and staying up till 10pm is a full blown party for me. Hahahaha !!
I had a blast!!!! I was out of my seat and dancing in the aisles. For the first time in years I used my dyskinesia to my advantage. As far as I was concerned, I WAS partying like a rock star. For 2.5 hours PD was a distant memory. I was home by 11:00, but was too wound up to sleep so I ended up on the internet. Last night reminded me how important a positive attitude is to living with PD.
P.S. Some loud rock music doesn't hurt either.
There are times when we just have to say screw you PD I still have a life !!
I always say that if your having a somewhat good day, do everything you can and want to do. Some day we'll look back and say.... man I'm glad I did that when I still could. Life has a way of slipping by us, and before we know it, it's to late.
Luckily for me, the Sinemet has pretty much stopped my arm and hand tremors. They will sometimes come back as my dose starts wearing off, but very minimal. I am so thankful for that.
Honestly when I first joined up here I was feeling pretty low. Not only about the PD, but other health problems and personal issues. That's where the name came up. Thanks to you all, I really don't feel old or slow anymore. Well ok..... maybe some days I still do Hahaha ! Also my wife is always kidding with me and calling me old man. So I thought the name was fitting .
I will say that meeting you all here was the best thing that has happened to me in a long time ! I think of you all as family now, and feel I can tell you anything and you understand.
