Parkinson's Disease Support Group
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. The primary symptoms of Parkinsons are due to excessive muscle contraction, normally caused by the insufficient formation and action of dopamine, which is produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the...
Will be interesting to see what they find.....kind of creepy though IMO
The treatment being trialled involves transplanting choroid plexus cells from the Auckland Island pig herd into the brain. Choroid plexus cells are naturally occurring support cells for the brain and when transplanted can help protect the brain and repair damaged nerve tissue. These cells will be encapsulated with LCTs IMMUPEL, to prevent the immune system from rejecting them as foreign. Trial patients will receive either NTCELL treatment or the current gold standard of treatment
I agree there needs to be a cure found and I hate to say it but there just may not be. The way I look at it, in reality as many people say, they don't know of many or any major diseases they have found a cure for. It is such a shame because they do so much research on various meds to treat diseases (which only line the pockets of the big pharmas). If they find a cure, then the meds would not make pharmas or research companies any profits.
The biggest defense to any disease is to go at it full force, learn what we can and do what makes us feel better. It seems everyone is different in treatments. We just can't put our lives on hold waiting for a cure. We all have to make the best of our lives the way they are now and work on feeling the best we can each day. (That is my opinion only)
I kind of felt like I would take almost anything for my thyroid too. BUT the big difference was that it had to have been out for a LONG time and proven that it works. Then I did tons of research on it before I gulped it down. IMO---people are way too gullible these days with meds and treatments. Guess I am a skeptic and will stay that way.
The pig cell trial is in the "guinea pig" stage----so maybe that is why they are using pig cells who knows.....but one thing is certain, they ain't drilling no hole in my head to practice on......=)
Nice to hear from you.
I'll try anything ... I don't care if it's eye of newt or toe of frog.
As long as its not hot or spicy!
Cheers
Darlene :)
A bit about me without sounding vain. Intelligent , I research everything, extrovert who gave up all her friends, very skeptical , but I remain positive, down to earth , hate lairs, honest and often misunderstood . Many reason for the complex mixture of me! Being the massive skeptic , I ask myself why would anyone want to invent the cure, when if found, it would ruin the pharmaceutical companies who produce the meds that keep us going.
Then I think about the MJ Fox institution, and the founding member MJF who has bought so much publicity , and has done more for PD than anyone ever!!! His institution has been joined by one of my people (Australian) Clyde Campbell a millionaire with PD , who want the cure too.
If you and I had millions like MJF and Clyde C , where would we be putting it??? I know my answer would be towards research, if not only for ourselves, for the greater good.
Keep believing! Never quit. I wont ! as hard as this shit crap disease is. I would rate myself as 90% not complaining about it. 5% a whinge every now and again, and 5% my personal or shared rare Daily strength freak out moment
MJ Fox does donate alot of money to his non-profit organization. I truly think if he was the one doing the research there would be a cure by now. But that is just me. Skeptically thinking, I am sure the research people make a huge salary as they keep 'looking'.
