I took a giant step last evening and left my safety net to attend a family function. I was so filled with anxiety the whole day. I even delayed taking my pain medications to that I wouldn't feel so groggy and tired and could stay for the whole event.
It's been a while since I have felt up to attending any functions as it meant leaving my "safety net" but I literally forced myself to attend because I needed to show support for my husband and to get back into being around the family again.
Not sure I will attend too many of these functions because I was so uncomfortable sitting down and trying to hide my pain and discomfort was difficult.
But mu "goal for the day" was to attend the birthday dinner last night to I achieved my "goal for the day" so I rewarded myself with a Snicker's candy bar when I got home.
I also learned that I do have the support of a few of the family members. Those that did care expressed their feelings of not knowing what I was going through and told me that should I need anything I could call upon them - the other family members just kept their distance and acted as if I didn't exist - so it was a very insightful evening so say the least.
I broke my heart and my spirit when I was not accepted like I had been in the past but this feeling will pass in time. I need to keep myself protected from negativity and childish games so attending many more family functions will be something I will really be apprehensive about doing in the coming months.
But I just wanted to share my accomplishment of getting out of the house last night and attending my father-in-laws birthday dinner. Yeah for me!!!

I find it hard to be around anyone also. I am glad that you set your goal and achieved it. I hope each time gets easier.
