This approval after a lengthy review process is a true victory for people with Parkinsons experiencing this common and debilitating symptom. Orthostatic hypotension is a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing, which can cause dizziness, falls and injury.

Hi Annie , yes the PD meds cause low blood pressure , that is why i you may feel dizzy.Did you had your BP checked ? Go to your family physician and have it checked,Then if low you can drink more water or put some salt on your food to get the BP up.

If it's the kind of dizzy where you cannot even sit up, get rid of every CF compact flourescent lightbulb you have and stock up on the old incandescent kind--they no longer make them so when they sell out they're gone until that stupid law is repealed.

Hi Annie, I have problems with OH as well. I just had an episode this morning when I got up to go into the kitchen. I think that OH is another symptom of PD for some of us. I had low blood pressure before being diagnosed and my PCare dr. although happy about it didn't like it sooo low. I would become very dizzy, see black and feel like I was passing out. When I started taking Azilect it got worse. I am just happy I didn't black out - if you read other posts (they are usually entitled "dizzy" or "dizziness" if you want to do a discussion search) of people fainting and hitting their heads. Anyway I had read that drinking water really helps so I started drinking a lot of water and I still do - I drink water all day long and that really helps. My husband cooks and he doesn't use salt because of his HBP so I have to make sure and add salt to my food.

So after I got use to the Azilect and drank the water the dizzy spells went away - even though I still continued to have LBP. Then I started taking sinemet and that was ok too but I started commuting to NYC each day and the dizzy spells got really bad. Anyway it is a long story. I found that if I moved my Azilect to the evening when I get home from work about 7:00 pm that that really helped with the dizzy spells in the morning. And then I found out that you shouldn't take the Azilect and Sinemet together because one does something to the other (can't remember what that is). So I think that when I took the Azilect and Sinemet at the same time each morning that that is why I had such dizzy spells in the morning. I still have dizzy spells and LBP but not as bad. I always keep water on me. Look up the OH on the internet and you will learn the things you can do for it. The LBP doesn't allow the blood to go to the head when I get up too fast. They say to get up slower but I forget and it usually just bothers me in the morning. The one thing that helps when I have a spell is to stop and to just stand and hold on to something until I get my grips back and then I am ok. I am sure each of us have as typical different type of OH spells that suffer from OH. But i hope this helps and also read up on it. Good Luck

Thank you all for your generous sharing of things I can do for the dizziness. I am going to go off Abilify because I think that's the dizzy med. But am also drinking more water and adding salt to my diet. My BP was high, but I got it under control with weight loss and its "perfect" when I'm sitting, but the dr measured it sitting, lying down and standing up and the standing up dropped it below perfect. I feel like I need a juggler's outfit! I see the N on 3/3. Will be interested in his take on this. Again, many thanks from your tippy friend.
