After a month, the doctor finally sent a referral to the hospital about a swallowing assessment. My husband has had a cough for about 4 months and the MDS recommended a swallowing assessment.
The Speech Pathologist called today to set up the appointment for next Tues. She asked several questions about his swallowing but he doesn't really have problems with that. It's mostly the cough.
I also mentioned that he has problems speaking and she said that the swallowing assessment was recommended but we'll go from there.
My husband has problems putting sentences together or expressing himself as he can't find the words, but maybe if she sees that problem too, she'll do more testing...........I am hoping anyway.
He just doesn't join in a conversation with other people and I can't really have much of a conversation with him anymore.
Maybe the cough is a blessing in disguise because I mentioned one time about getting some speak therapy and he wasn't interested, so maybe going for the swallowing assessment will open that door.

We'll see what the pathologist says about it and whether she can give him some exercises or something to do.
Maybe they won't do it tomorrow as he is just scheduled for the swallowing but hopefully they do something later.
