Why doesn't your doctor increase the amount of Sinemet. Three per day doesn't seem like very much to help. My husband takes 8 per day ( 2 x 4) . He still has tremors but I thought Sinemet was mostly for stiffness. Maybe it just that your tremors are getting more pronounced so that is why you think the meds aren't helping.
This is just my opinion which might be wrong, but it seems reasonable to increase your meds before switching to another kind. .

Hi John, I agree with reply 1 #, I recall that my Neuro told me that if tremour/s are your main symptom, then no meds will totally stop them, slow them down or stop while the meds are working at their best. It seems to me that your doses maybe wearing off quicker.

Interesting, my sinemet was reduced to 1/2 tablet every 2 hours to reduce dyskinesias. My dyskinesias aren't as bad, but my tremours occur more frequently.

I was diagnosed about 2 years ago (changed from ET to PD). My neuro put me on artane to reduce or stop the tremors. Today I take 2mg in the AM, 1mg about 4 PM and 1mg at bedtime. Tremors are for the most part gone.

my neuri say the same think , but when i come close, there is nothing but sinemet all the other drugs just prevent certain amount of damage the sinemet does. they did not come out with anything new sense the sinemet was discovered . Just the size and strength i take 14 sinemet a day.. my next try will b cabanos. Probably diid not spell i right but i think u get it . hi... my understanding (well what my neuro does so that's my only understanding lol) is that other drugs are usually started before sinemet... the dopamine agonists (requip.. meripex... neuro patch) and also azilect (the one that protects the good brain cells) and then sinemet is introduced.... if sinemet isn't working on it's own then the others are combined... but that's just what i know from my own experience... good luck to you... paula

It seems to me that you are really on a very small amount of Sinemet. If it were me, I think I would talk t my neuro about increasing the dosage before I tried going to another drug.I don't think the Sinemet has quit working, you just aren't getting a large enough dose.

Hi wasiwasi, I like that name :-). It makes me laugh this morning. Sinemet helps my tremors. I take Azilect in the am and 4 sinemet per day. When my dose is wearing off I the first symptom I get is the tremor.

Pills that may be added include: entacapone, pramipexole, rasagiline, ropinirole, selegiline. I read Dr. Stacy on WebMD and he thinks it is better to keep the doses of all the meds low. Or it is better to take more times a day with the doses being smaller.

All of us are in different stages. Sinemet is the gold standard medicine but has its draw backs especially when taken for a long time.

I read up on all the meds before I went to the Dr. to discuss taking meds. Many of these meds have side effects so it is better to keep the doses low. It is best to know what the dr. is talking about. Dr. Stacy says the best step in PD recovery is a good conversation with my PD Dr.

I'm brand new to PD, diagnosed about 10 weeks ago. My Doctor put me on Sinemet right away (3 tablets per day) and I felt a sense of well being even though I still experienced some hand and arm tremor. When I went to the neurologist he put me on the Neupro patch 1mg. The well being that I was feeling became a low-grade depression and the tremors continued. When the samples were used up I complained of how I was feeling and the dose was increased to 2mg. I feel groggy most of the time, like the world is moving in slow motion and I have no energy. I'm in my third week of Neupro and wonder if its something I will adjust to or if its just wrong for me. I feel like not putting it on any more. I never had prescriptions for an illness before and I'm trying to handle this. I would appreciate some advice from your experience to help me til I get a little of my own. Thank you, SG

Paladin-----I once asked a neuro doc (one that I tried out) about artane and he said it was an old drug and would make me sleepy so he doesn't use it.

That is great that it helps you with the tremors---have you had any problems with fatigue when you take it? I don't understand why they shy away from the older drugs. The med I take for my thyroid is over 100 yrs old and it was the only one that worked for me. I would have died on the newer ones they have. Thanks for any help.

There are many on this site who use the patch and will be able to share their experiences with you. You can just copy and past your post here and put it in the new discussion. I do not use the patch but I do know that it has just been approved in the US. Good luck.
