I've been taking both Levocarb and Azilect, which both cause fatigue and sleep problems for me, to help my PD symptoms that include fatigue and sleep problems!?
The severity of my insomnia fluctuates. On the rare occasion I'll have 5 hours of uninterupted sleep. Sometimes I'm up and down all night after 3 hours sleep and I've had absolutely zero sleep on a couple of occasions. That's all with the aid of a sleeping pill.
I'm considering asking my Neurologist to remove Azilect from my meds. It seems to have no positive effect on my PD symptoms and I believe this elbow and forearm pain I've been experiencing is a side effect from the Azilect.
I see my Neurologist later this month. I'll keep you posted on the sleep/azilect thing. Good luck!

Chip, I've been on Azilect for a few months now in addtion to Senemet which I've been taking for about a year now and is my 3rd PD med that my Neurologist had prescribed for me. Like you, I've been experiencing more than normal isomnia, and don't feel any added benefit to my pd, so I appreciate you bringing this up as a topic for discussion. As for me my Doctor put me on a sleeping pill. But after you are on them for a few years. Which i saying this about myself. They begin to slowly stop working.. But i know a few people has been on sleeping pills, and have no problems. It might be worth checking with your doctor.

My wife is in the advanced stage of Parkinson's so this may not apply. She was alway a good sleeper until she developed Parkinson's. None of the sleep aid worked until her neurologist put her on clonazepam and seroquel at bedtime. As the disease has progresseed he has slowly increased to dosage of the Clonazepam, but not the seroquel. She sleeps great both going to sleep and staying asleep. She gets about 8 hours of sleep most nights and some nights about 9 hours. However, I've have to be sure she is in bed within 30 minutes after taking pills so she doesn't fall or go to sleep in her chair.

I take Lunesta for insomnia. It is also called Eszopiclone. I get a pretty good sleep with it. You might ask your doctor about it.

I am taking Azilect and just recently started to have sleepless nights. I have changed my sleep pattern and added naps to my routine. I go home after work , lay down and sleep 3 hours. Then I get up an do chores and life responsibilities for about 4 - 5hours. Go back to sleep getting 3-4 hours sleep. And then every afternoon I lay down for a 3 hour nap. Seems to be working. Hot tub at night helps and before nap, also I drink chamomile tea before bed--relaxes me. Hope this helps.
