My mom has end stage parkinsons. She doesn't speak anymore. The dementia took over. She eats sleeps a lot pees and polls. That's it. She is in an excellent nursing home. I visit her often. She can't move or talk or smile. She stares and listens. I love her so. I always shared everything with my mom. She was so caring and kind. She is 79 years old. I love you mom.

Watching our parents decline is never an easy thing. How fortunate that the two of you had such a caring relationship over the years. It is those rich memories - not your mother's current state - that will remain with you over time.

I am so sorry for you and your mom. But that glorified body is waiting for us and it will be amazing. Much thoughts and love sent your way. I agree with Dirky and Dream...cherish the memories.

"She stares and listens." Perhaps you could read to her... poetry, children's stories she read to you. Your voice is probably as important as your touch and presence.

Hi Vonda, God bless as you go through this with your mother. I am going through mental dementia with my mother and it hurts sooooo bad. It especially hurts when she tries so hard to live in reality and still fails. I have started going to a care giver support group and let me tell you - you have your mother in a good place if you have her in an "excellent" nursing home. The real time stories I hear at the support group are unbelievable. We think my mother will be able to go to adult day care and I am having a hard time just locating one that does not just make those with with my mother's physical restrictions just to sit in a chair all day. My mother can stay home and sit in a chair all day.

God bless - just try to take it one day at a time - the future is too overwhelming and be grateful that she is in a good place.
